Our Practice offers a broad range of services in family medicine, women's health, skin cancer surgery and musculoskeletal medicine.
The Practice Principal, Dr. Neil Hearnden has been involved since the opening of the practice in 1980 and he is supported by a talented Australian-trained team of GP's with a wide range of skills. Dr. Hearnden has achieved a Master's of Medicine degree from the University of Queensland in the area of Skin Cancer Medicine. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine.
Associate Professor Dr. Michael Yelland, has been extensively involved in the education and training of medical students and GP registrars. He continues to offer special skills in the diagnosis, treatment and management of painful musculoskeletal disorders, a skill for which he has international recognition. He holds a Ph.D. and a Graduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine. He is an immediate past president of the Australasian Association of Musculoskeletal Medicine.
Dr. Lauren-Phoebe Nielsen has a Diploma of Child Health as well as the FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health. She provides "the gentle touch" bringing youthful enthusiasm and fresh ideas to the practice. Her special focus is on the health of women in our community, family planning, exercise and nutrition. She is now offering the LARC intrauterine contraceptive device (progesterone containing IUD) from January 2020.
Dr. Mitchell White is our General Practice Registrar. He holds a Masters's degree in Epidemiology and is the father of two young children. Importantly, he will be continuing practice at Arana Medical in 2021.
Our full-time Practice Nurse Tracy Ivey RN provides wound care, immunisations and care coordination assisted by our EN Merindah Turner
The practice has attained the 4th round of General Practice Accreditation and is one of the select few “Category A” practices which train new Doctors who are entering General Practice after their intense hospital-based training. Medical Students also are invited to attend the practice as part of their educational experience as well. In turn, they help to keep the practice up to date with modern teachings. The Practice is equipped with efficient "cloud-ready" computerised medical records and electronic prescription writing. Secure encrypted messaging assists in ensuring the accuracy of referrals, radiology and pathology results.
